RADU SEGA
a portfolio.
about the artist.
Radu is a writer and artist based in Crowborough, East Sussex. As a student of the University of Southampton, his editorial work has been featured on the entertaintment magazine, The Edge. His visuals for the university’s student magazine, Wessex Scene, have received praise from readers, committee members, and even his mum.
With the 2023 Isabel Brittain Prize for Art, Radu has proven to his superiors that he is able to follow a brief, weave a story into his work, and execute his ideas to a high standard. He has been commended by his teachers for his creativity and refinement, with some going as far to highlight him as the best artist that they have seen while teaching at the Skinners’ School for Boys.
Radu loves to use grain and contrasting colours to create a feel of quiet luxury that jumps out at the viewer. His frequent photoshoots with friends, teachers and himself during his Art A-Level course have given him invaluable experience with professional lighting, Photoshop, Procreate, and his dad’s Instagram page.
about the portfolio.
Radu is interested in how we avoid confronting the truth in our culture. The three editorial pieces in this portfolio correspond with Sigmund Freud’s first three defense mechanisms against emotional pain- projection, repression, and sublimation. While Radu would like to have a word with Freud, he does think that these defense mechanisms can be applied to the modern media scene in many ways. With this portfolio, he explores a myriad of subjects that match this theme - both editorial and visual work can reflect how we avoid reality.
